Armed bandits have reportedly imposed a N20million levy on a community in Katsina State and threatened to force residents out if the demand is not met.

Residents said the gunmen issued the ultimatum after invading the community, demanding the payment within a short timeframe. They warned that anyone who fails to comply would be expelled from their homes and farmlands.

The development has created fear among locals, with many abandoning daily activities out of concern for their safety. Community members described the levy as unbearable, noting that most households already struggle with displacement and poverty caused by years of attacks.

Sources said the bandits have been extorting money from rural settlements across the state, using threats and violence to enforce compliance. Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident.

Community leaders have appealed to government and security forces to intervene urgently and restore order before more residents are forced to flee.
