ATIKU ABUBAKAR CLAIMS ADC PRESIDENTIAL TICKET IN DECISIVE PRIMARY VICTORY.

The African Democratic Congress has chosen Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections following a nationwide primary.

The outcome was made public on Wednesday night at the party’s collation centre in Abuja. According to the returning officer, Tunde Ogbeha, Atiku secured the highest number of votes to defeat his challengers.

The final tally showed Atiku with 1,846,370 votes. Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, finished second with 504,117 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen polled 177,120 votes. 

In total, 2,527,977 party members participated in the exercise out of 3,113,599 registered members. Reports from state collations also showed Atiku winning by wide margins, including in Sokoto where he got 68,823 votes against Amaechi’s 292 and Hayatu-Deen’s 319.

Although some states reported parallel contests, the national collation committee confirmed that Atiku polled the most votes overall.

With this result, Atiku will represent ADC in the 2027 presidential race.
