The Allied Peoples’ Movement, APM, has won all 20 chairmanship seats in the Bauchi State Local Government elections held on Sunday, August 17, 2026.

The sweep gives the party full control of the 20 LGAs, weeks after Governor Bala Mohammed and key PDP stakeholders defected to APM.

According to Channels Television, APM candidates emerged winners in all 20 chairmanship positions across the state.

BASIEC had earlier said elections would hold in 19 LGAs for chairmanship, with Shira LGA excluded because it had a by-election. However, results announced showed APM won all 20 seats.

Councillorship results for the 323 wards are yet to be fully released by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission.

The victory comes months after Governor Bala Mohammed formally joined APM on May 2, 2026, citing internal crises in PDP. Several commissioners, LG chairmen, and assembly members followed him.

Ahead of the polls, the governor met with APM chairmanship, deputy, and councillorship candidates to strategize on grassroots mobilization.

APM State Chairman, Auwal Isah, urged candidates to sustain mobilization beyond the council polls for the 2027 general elections.

BASIEC Chairman, Hajiya Jummai Salamatu Abubakar, had assured residents of a free, fair and credible poll. Certificates of Return are expected to be issued to the 20 elected chairmen and their deputies.

The 2024 LG poll in Bauchi was swept by PDP. This 2026 result marks a major shift with APM now controlling all councils.
