The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a second suspect, 32-year-old Ifeanyi Ekemezie, in connection with an ongoing investigation into kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related crimes in Awka. Ekemezie was apprehended on February 17, 2026, at Isuaniocha in Awka North LGA. This follows the arrest of 33-year-old Ndubuisi Anyakaku on February 13, 2026, whose bank account allegedly received a ₦1 million ransom from a kidnapped victim.

The case stems from a December 31, 2025, incident where a victim was attacked, robbed, and kidnapped at his residence in Amansea, Awka North LGA. The victim’s Toyota Highlander Jeep was stolen, and ₦3 million was transferred from his bank account. Ekemezie confessed to being part of a three-man gang involved in kidnapping and car snatching, and a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend other gang members and recover operational weapons.
