A former two-term PDP National Ex-Officio, David Vaughan, is urging the party’s founding fathers and Board of Trustees (BoT) to intervene in the ongoing leadership crisis threatening the party’s survival ahead of 2027. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Vaughan warned that unresolved internal conflicts and factional struggles could weaken the party and jeopardize its electoral prospects.

Vaughan, a PDP governorship aspirant in Lagos State in 2023, emphasized that the BoT should leverage its influence to resolve the crisis, saying, “The board of trustees has a strong hold; they should find a way to come together and intervene with honesty.” He noted that the party’s failure to manage its internal disputes politically cost it victory in the 2023 presidential election.
The PDP chieftain lamented that many loyal members have defected to other parties due to internal wrangling, while some long-standing leaders have refused to step aside. He stressed that reconciliation at the national leadership level would attract aggrieved members back to the party.
Vaughan believes the PDP can still challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 if leaders adopt sharper strategies and form alliances. He expressed confidence that a united opposition coalition could defeat the APC, saying many Nigerians still have affection for the PDP at the grassroots.
He called on defected PDP leaders to return and rescue the party, emphasizing that the party can still build new leaders to win elections. Vaughan recalled his role in the party’s 2015 electoral successes and maintained that with sincerity, discipline, and unity, the PDP can stage a strong comeback in 2027 and beyond.
