Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was blocked by protesters in Benue State on Tuesday while on a humanitarian visit to communities affected by recent attacks.

According to reports, Obi’s convoy was stopped near the Air Force Base in Makurdi as he was heading to Yelwata to sympathize with grieving families and displaced residents.
The Benue State Government has denied any involvement, saying the claims are unfounded and that no security notice was given ahead of the visit.
Reacting, Obi described the obstruction as “deeply distressing” especially during a period of national mourning. He said he later proceeded to Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State, where he visited an IDP camp housing over 500 people displaced by violence that has affected 45,000 persons across 20 communities.
The incident has drawn condemnation from political figures including Omoyele Sowore and former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who are calling for investigations.
Political observers say the episode highlights growing tensions over the freedom of movement for political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
