There was drama at the Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Tuesday as the lawyer who filed a case for the APC and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, applied to pull it out.

Osun state Governor Adeleke.

Seyi Oyagbile submitted the withdrawal motion dated September 8, 2026 at the tribunal registry in the Osun High Court complex.

The petition, with suit number EPT/Os/Gov/01/2026, was instituted against Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party and INEC over the August 15 governorship election.

Confirming the move, Oyagbile told reporters, “It is true. I have filed a notice to withdraw the petition.”

The development comes after the APC’s own legal team distanced itself from the suit. In an interview with The PUNCH on Monday, lead counsel Adekunle Adegoke, SAN, said the party never mandated anyone to challenge the result.

According to him, the party met with Oyebamiji after the poll and agreed not to go to court in order to reduce tension and maintain peace in Osun.

In a related twist, the PDP also alleged that a petition was filed in its name without authorisation. Osun PDP chieftain and National Treasurer, Diran Odeyemi, urged the NBA and LPDC to investigate.

“The PDP did not engage or authorise anyone to challenge Governor Adeleke’s re-election. Anyone claiming to represent us is an impostor,” Odeyemi stated.

The tribunal secretary, Belemo Diete-Spiff, had earlier posted notices of two petitions on the board on Monday.
