The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria, has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, Second Series.

WAEC announced the extension on Saturday via its official X handle.

“Registration for the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 – Second Series has now been extended to Friday, 28 August 2026,” the council said.

The council urged prospective candidates to take advantage of the new deadline and complete their registration.

Commonly called WAEC GCE, the examination is for individuals not enrolled in regular secondary schools. It provides an opportunity for candidates to obtain or improve their O’Level results independently.

WAEC said the 2026 exam will be conducted entirely as a Computer-Based Examination, CBE. The registration fee remains N37,000 and the examination is scheduled to hold between September and October 2026.

The council also advised candidates to visit the nearest WAEC office in their state to confirm available examination towns before completing registration.

Tregistration for the exam commenced on May 4, 2026. The new deadline supersedes the earlier deadline of July 31, 2026.
