The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 89 drivers for flouting the Inspector-General of Police’s directive against vehicles operating without registration plates or with covered, altered and obscured plates.

The Command said the nationwide crackdown, ordered by IGP Tunji Disu, is necessary because such violations threaten both state and national security. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, all 89 vehicles and their drivers have been apprehended and appropriate administrative and legal actions, including prosecution where necessary, are being taken in line with extant laws.
Babaseyi explained that the enforcement is a preventive policing strategy designed to improve vehicle traceability, strengthen intelligence gathering, aid prompt investigations and deny criminals the anonymity they exploit. He noted that the exercise will be sustained across Ogun State and that violators will be dealt with according to the law.
In separate operations, the Command also arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered stolen items. At Akuro Phase I, Ogere Remo, operatives of the Ogere Division working with the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, vigilantes and residents foiled a robbery on Thursday. The suspects invaded a home and took two motorcycles, phones, cash and other valuables but fled into the bush after security operatives responded. One suspect, Abdulsalam Adam, was arrested and is assisting with investigations. A knife, an expended cartridge and a broken padlock were recovered as exhibits. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran.
In another incident on July 2, 2026, operatives of the Ajuwon Division responded to a distress call at Baale Akinosi Area, Ajuwon. Hoodlums had invaded a residence and stolen mobile phones, jewellery, power banks, a laptop and a Toyota Camry. During a hot pursuit, the robbers abandoned the vehicle and escaped. One suspect, Israel Salako, was arrested and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the others and recover more property.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism and dedication. He urged motorists to comply with vehicle registration requirements and advised residents to board commercial vehicles only at designated parks, avoid unbranded cars, and share travel details with trusted contacts. He also called on the public to provide timely and credible information to support crime prevention.
