Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has canceled her planned visit to Nigeria where she was scheduled to receive an honorary degree from Nasarawa State University.

President Hassan chose to accept the honor virtually following criticism over alleged human rights violations in Tanzania.

The visit was expected to include the conferment ceremony at the university. No new date for an in-person visit has been announced.
