LAGOS SHUTS SHOP OVER UNSAFE PALM OIL.

Posted by

The Lagos State Government has alerted residents to the presence of unsafe palm oil being sold in markets and has closed at least one shop linked to the product.

Regulatory bodies said some of the palm oil in circulation has been mixed with substances such as azo dyes and red oxide, which are harmful to health. They noted that authentic palm oil typically has a deep orange-red color and a natural fruity smell, while tampered versions may be altered to look more appealing.

Consumers were urged to buy only from reliable sellers, verify registration details where available, and report any product that appears questionable. Authorities confirmed that enforcement is ongoing and that outlets found dealing in unsafe palm oil will be sealed and the sellers prosecuted.

The warning follows a period of increased palm oil prices, which some traders say has affected supply. Officials added that monitoring of markets will continue to protect public health.
