Togo has scrapped entry visas for all African citizens holding valid passports, with the policy taking effect on Monday, 18 May 2026.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Security through an official communiqué signed by Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, stating that Africans can now enter the country and stay for up to 30 days without a visa across all land borders, airports, and seaports.
The government said the reform is aimed at deepening continental integration, strengthening the free movement of people and goods, and positioning Togo as a regional hub for business, culture, and human exchange under the AU’s free movement agenda. Travelers still need to complete an online travel declaration at least 24 hours before arrival to obtain a travel slip for border checks, and all standard security, immigration, and public health requirements remain in force. The exemption also does not override existing laws on irregular entry or illegal stay.
