Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has formally entered the race for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, announcing his bid at a joint rally by the Peoples Democratic Party and the All People’s Movement.

The event, held to formalise the alliance between both parties, served as the stage for Makinde to outline his intention to contest the nation’s highest office. The declaration adds a prominent name to the early lineup of potential contenders ahead of the next general elections.

Makinde, who is serving his second term as Oyo governor, has been a visible figure in national politics and within the PDP. The rally marked a strategic moment for the coalition as the parties move to strengthen their structure and positioning for 2027.
