The National Information Technology Development Agency has announced plans to set up an AI innovation hub aimed at driving practical applications of artificial intelligence across key sectors.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Abdullahi said the agency’s AI strategy focuses on deploying technology where it has immediate impact, including healthcare, agriculture, financial services, and government operations. The hub is expected to support automation of public processes, AI-driven compliance monitoring, and knowledge management systems.
Abdullahi said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital sovereignty, attract investment in local cloud services, and support the growth of the country’s AI ecosystem. He noted that AI presents an opportunity to address development challenges and improve service delivery.
The announcement comes as Nigeria’s AI landscape shifts from experimentation to execution, with growing activity in startups, partnerships, and regulatory frameworks.
