The Federal Government has initiated emergency food relief in Niger State, targeting vulnerable groups impacted by floods and insecurity. Led by Minister Dr. Bernard Doro, the program aims to provide nutritional support to displaced persons, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children.

Alongside the relief efforts, the government has introduced a long-term poverty alleviation plan, focusing on sustainable economic empowerment rather than short-term aid. This involves enrolling beneficiaries in the National Social Register, granting access to cash transfers, skills training, and microfinance opportunities.

The initiative is part of the Presidential Food and Nutrition Assistance program, addressing micronutrient deficiencies and preventing health issues like anaemia. The government is also crafting a 2026 National Disaster Mitigation Framework to enhance preparedness.
