According to BBC News, the classic novel “Lord of the Flies” is being adapted into a BBC One drama series. The book, written by William Golding, tells a dramatic tale of survival and human nature. A group of schoolboys are stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash, left to fidget on their own. The boys’ behavior descends into chaos, revealing the darker side of human nature. The series explores the themes of savagery, leadership, and the effects of isolation.

The group of young actors recently spent several months filming the BBC One series Lord of the Flies in Malaysia, and they’re still buzzing from the experience. The boys, aged between five and 12, played schoolboys stranded on a tropical island with no adults, following a deadly plane crash.

30 young actors journeyed to Langkawi island to film the four-part BBC One drama.

Fred Jones, 7, from Manningtree, Essex, who plays Johnny in the show, said it was an amazing experience, even when a cheeky thief ran off with his breakfast. “A monkey broke in the hotel restaurant, climbed down a pole and stole my croissant and omelette,” he laughed.

Beau Thompson, 8, from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, who plays Philip, said finding out he had been cast was “mind-blowing”. He enjoyed spotting local wildlife, including monkeys, and learning new skills like swimming and diving.

Rafael de Belligny, 13, from Maldon, Essex, felt lucky to be part of the project. “I think it was almost a year from the first audition tape to when we actually started shooting,” he said. He enjoyed exploring Langkawi and playing with friends on the beach.

The boys’ experiences were filled with adventure, laughter, and learning. Director Jack Munden said the boys were “really serious” about their work and learned a lot from each other. “They learned that they didn’t have to present a character and say the lines like you might in a school play; that the character came out of what they were doing,” he said.
