In an ambush at Auno, near Jakana, along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road in Borno State, four soldiers were killed on Thursday night. The troops were reportedly ambushed while going to reinforce colleagues under attack, and were hit by controlled mines laid by the terrorists.

The soldiers were serving in the area and were sent to reinforce fellow soldiers when they encountered the ambush. One of the victims was identified as Saidu, a jovial soldier.
Auno has been a hotspot for Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgent activity, with frequent attacks on military checkpoints and civilians in recent times. The area is considered extremely volatile, and the attack is the latest in a string of incidents in the region.
