UN RENEW CALLS FOR CEASEFIRE IN UKRAINE.

The United Nations has marked four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine with a high-level debate and renewed calls to end the war. The General Assembly passed a resolution titled “Support for lasting peace in Ukraine,” reaffirming its commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. This resolution urges an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, exchange of prisoners of war, and return of civilians forcibly transferred, including children.

The resolution was adopted with 107 votes in favor, including Nigeria, 12 against, and 51 abstentions. United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, condemned the invasion as a violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, calling for a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace.
