
Gunmen attacked a commercial bus in Kogi State, abducting six passengers and shooting the driver. The incident occurred on Friday evening, February 27, 2026, along the Ijowa-Ijagbe axis in Mopamuro Local Government Area. The attackers, believed to be bandits, emerged from the bush and opened fire on the 18-seater bus, forcing it to a halt. The driver was critically injured and rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The six abducted passengers include five men and one woman. The incident has heightened tension in the area, with residents calling for increased security patrols and surveillance. This is not an isolated incident, as Kogi State has witnessed a surge in kidnappings and highway attacks in recent months, particularly in Mopamuro, Yagba East, and Yagba West local government areas.
