Johns Hopkins Hospital is making history with five African American surgical residents leading Trauma and Acute Care Surgery for the first time. The residents are Ivy Mannoh, Valentine Alia, Ife Shoyombo, Zach Enumah, and Lawrence Brown. Ivy Mannoh, one of the residents, is from Accra, Ghana, and is pursuing thoracic surgery with a focus on health equity and global surgery. Ife Shoyombo, from Lagos, Nigeria, is specializing in acute care surgery and trauma, with research interests in global surgery and functional recovery from trauma.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in surgical leadership, highlighting the importance of diversity and representation in medicine. The appointment of these residents reflects Johns Hopkins Hospital’s commitment to excellence and diversity in surgical care.
