A young Swiss man, 18, succumbed to injuries from a devastating New Year’s Eve bar fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, raising the death toll to 41. The incident occurred at Le Constellation bar, a popular spot among young people, where the drinking age is 16. The fire injured 116 people, mostly youngsters, with eight victims under 16. Many are still receiving treatment for severe burns in hospitals across Europe.

According to investigators, the fire likely started when sparklers on champagne bottles ignited soundproof foam on the ceiling. Authorities revealed the bar hadn’t had safety checks in five years. Bar owners Jacques and Jessica Moretti face charges of manslaughter by negligence, bodily harm by negligence, and arson by negligence.

Jessica Moretti is under a travel ban, surrendered her passport, and must report to police daily. Her husband, Jacques, is in custody for 90 days. The tragedy has sparked outrage, with protesters demanding justice and truth.
