Troops of Sector 5 under Operation Enduring Peace have launched a manhunt for suspected criminal herders after several farmlands were destroyed in two communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops responded at about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, to a distress report of farmland destruction in Kwatas Village.

On arrival, the troops found that a large number of farms in Kwatas and the neighbouring Wumat villages had been extensively damaged overnight by suspected criminal herders.

The full extent of the destruction is yet to be assessed, but security sources described the damage as significant, with several cultivated farmlands affected.

The troops immediately commenced efforts to track the perpetrators, while investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible.

Security sources said the operation is part of sustained efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to curb recurring farmer-herder conflicts and protect farming communities across Plateau State.

The sources added that troops remain deployed in the affected communities to prevent further attacks and reassure residents as the search for the fleeing suspects continues.
