Troops of the 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army, have raided a suspected illegal oil bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, arresting six persons during the operation.

The raid was conducted on intelligence, according to a statement issued Wednesday on X by Lieutenant Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 81 Division.

Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo led the operation. The troops arrested six suspected oil bunkerers and seized four trucks, one pumping machine, and various pipes and drums believed to have been used for the illicit activity.

The suspects and the recovered equipment have been transferred to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation.

In the statement, the Army said the raid was “acting on credible intelligence” and resulted in the arrests and seizure of materials linked to illegal bunkering.

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops and urged them to sustain operations against economic sabotage and other crimes within the division’s area of responsibility.

He charged personnel “to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.”
