Amnesty International has condemned the Nigerian government following a fresh attack in a Zamfara community that left 17 farmers dead and 13 others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, armed attackers stormed the farming community and opened fire on residents before fleeing the scene. The rights group said the incident reflects a continued failure to protect rural communities from violent raids.

Amnesty called on authorities to urgently deploy more security personnel, investigate the attack, and ensure justice for victims. It added that repeated attacks on farming areas are threatening food security and forcing residents to abandon their lands.

Local sources said the injured are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals, while families of those killed are demanding stronger government action to end the cycle of violence.

Zamfara and other northwest states have faced frequent attacks on farming communities, with banditry and cattle rustling displacing thousands in recent years.
