Suspected terrorists invaded Nuku community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, killing five forest guards and kidnapping two others. Residents said the attackers stormed the area under cover of darkness, firing sporadically and catching the newly recruited security operatives off guard. The commander of the forest guard unit in Nuku was among those killed.

Videos and photographs from the scene showed burnt motorcycles and destroyed patrol vehicles belonging to security operatives. A resident who visited the site said the forest guards attempted to repel the attack but were overpowered, while other security personnel fled for safety. The assailants operated for some time without resistance before leaving.

The raid on Nuku comes after terrorists recently paraded kidnapped victims from nearby Woro, about two kilometres away, where over 200 people were reportedly killed and 176 abducted in February. Nuku residents say the latest killings have left the community traumatised and further weakened local security efforts. Many villagers expressed fear for their safety, noting that if armed personnel are not safe, ordinary residents are more vulnerable.

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act by terrorist cells frustrated by ongoing counterterrorism operations. The state government said security forces have continued to pursue gangs across several communities, including Patigi, Edu, Ifelodun, and Kaiama. The police spokesperson in Kwara said she was not yet aware of the Nuku attack but would find out.
