Troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued six civilians on Friday evening after engaging suspected terrorists along the Delwa–Komala road in Borno State.

Security sources said the incident happened at about 17:58 hours on June 6, 2026. Intelligence reached troops at Forward Operating Base Molai that armed gunmen had ambushed travellers and taken several people captive.

The soldiers were immediately deployed on a fighting patrol to the area. Upon arrival, they made contact with the terrorists. Faced with the troops’ advance, the armed group abandoned their captives and fled into nearby bushes.

All six victims were recovered unharmed. They include four adult males, one adult female and one minor. Military officials said the rescued civilians were moved to a secure location for medical assessment and documentation.

The army noted that while the security situation in the theatre remains generally calm, it is still unpredictable. Troops are continuing aggressive patrols and clearance operations in vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks.

Officials also said morale and operational effectiveness remain high, with ongoing operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement across the North-East.
