Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has walked out of the All Progressives Congress, accusing the Ogun chapter of sidelining her and ignoring party rules.

The daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo submitted her resignation in a letter dated May 31 to state APC chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi. The US-based epidemiologist said she was pushed out by a pattern of disregard that followed her bid for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket.
Obasanjo-Bello faulted how Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly called Yayi, emerged as consensus candidate. She maintained she had agreed to accept any consensus outcome, but claimed the process broke APC’s own guidelines because she was never brought into talks before the announcement.
She further alleged that people loyal to her were blocked from the hall where Adeola was presented and faced harassment that day. Even then, she said she chose party unity over grievance and publicly congratulated him that night.
Weeks later, Adeola met her supporters and pledged to reply to three demands within seven days. Obasanjo-Bello said that promise expired without a word, which she cited as proof of a wider problem of marginalisation within Ogun APC.
Having re-entered politics this year through Ward 11, Ibogun in Ifo LGA, she ended her letter with a direct line: “When disrespect becomes the only meal, you leave the table.” She however expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Sanusi and other chieftains for courtesies shown her while she was a member.
