Members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, held a solidarity protest on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the Government House, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State, demanding the immediate release of teachers and pupils abducted in Oyo State.

The Lagos demonstration was part of nationwide rallies directed by NUT’s national leadership. Teachers across the federation converged on state secretariats to press for the unconditional freedom of victims kidnapped on May 15, 2026 in Oriire LGA, Oyo State.
In Lagos, protesters assembled at Ikeja Bus Stop before marching to Alausa Secretariat. They carried placards with messages like “Stop the Kidnapping of Teachers and Students Now,” “Schools Must Be Safe Havens, Not Crime Scenes,” and “Protect Teachers, Protect the Future”.
Lagos NUT Chairman, Akintoye Hassan, confirmed the rally would go ahead while schools in most states remained open, unlike Oyo where public primary and secondary schools were shut indefinitely from June 1, 2026 until victims are freed.
NUT National President, Audu Titus Amba, said the union is pursuing all lawful means and renewed calls on the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies to intensify rescue efforts. President Bola Tinubu has since approved 1,000 forest guards for Oyo and deployed a specialized rescue unit.
