The Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council is demanding a full probe into the death of Taliat Simbiat during a primary election organized by the Accord Party in Iwo Local Government Area.

Party officials say the tragedy occurred on Saturday at the exercise meant to pick Accord’s candidate for the Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency seat. According to the council, Mrs. Simbiat from Ward 3, Iwo died during a violent clash that also left roughly 30 persons wounded.

Remi Omowaiye, who speaks for the APC campaign council, released the statement Sunday. He noted that preliminary reports showed the party exercise turned chaotic, resulting in casualties. Omowaiye called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to work with security agencies to track down and prosecute anyone linked to the woman’s death and the injuries recorded.

In response, Governor Adeleke rejected the violence narrative. He stated that Mrs. Simbiat slumped and passed away at the venue during the primary, not because of an attack.

The APC council sent condolences to the family and prayed for quick recovery of those hurt. It also warned that political primaries must remain peaceful and focused on democratic choice, not bloodshed.
