The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 63-year-old Chinese national at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for allegedly attempting to bring 31 kilograms of a synthetic cannabis strain known as ‘Canadian Loud’ into Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Ting Hung Kiong, was apprehended on Sunday, May 17, 2026, upon arrival on an Emirates flight from Thailand via Dubai. She was found with two large travel boxes containing the consignment. Kiong, who holds Malaysian citizenship, told investigators she works as a caregiver in Malaysia. She claimed her daughter funded her trip from Malaysia to Thailand, where she stayed for two weeks before being given the drugs at a Thai airport for delivery to Nigeria.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officers recovered 1,825,710 tablets of Tapentadol 250mg worth N2.19 billion at the airport’s import shed. The shipment, which came from India through Emirates Cargo, was transferred to the agency by the Nigeria Customs Service on May 22 after joint monitoring.
