The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has foiled two separate drug trafficking attempts, arresting a suspected cocaine mule in Enugu and a building engineer with thousands of opioid pills in Abuja.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, NDLEA officers at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, stopped Onyeka Valentine Emeka during passenger clearance on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Sierra Leone via Addis Ababa. After being placed under observation, he excreted 185.36 grams of cocaine.
A day later, on May 21, operatives at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, arrested 29-year-old Babatunde Prosper Afekhide while he tried to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Milan, Italy, through Addis Ababa. A search of his suitcase revealed 10,280 opioid pills — Tramaking 225mg, Tramadol 200mg, and Tapentadol 250mg — hidden in foil inside a carton.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi confirmed both arrests on Sunday. He said the seizures underscore the agency’s sustained crackdown on drug trafficking through Nigeria’s airports.
Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised the operatives and called for continued action on drug supply reduction and public awareness under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
