The Accord Party in Oyo State has cautioned governorship aspirant Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat against what it described as bitterness and disregard for party authority, following the alleged disruption of its House of Assembly screening exercise by unidentified political thugs.

The position was contained in a statement released on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from Ibadan, signed by the State Chairman, Prince Kolade Ojo, and the State Secretary, Hon. Olayinka Dairo. The party executives accused Hamzat of attempting to influence party officials, showing a lack of respect for the state working committee, and interfering with the roles and responsibilities of the party. They restated that party supremacy remains a core principle of Accord, noting that the party is guided by discipline, internal democracy and order.

The screening exercise took place at the Grand Serene Hotel in Ibadan and was reportedly interrupted by hoodlums who attacked female hotel staff and damaged property at the venue. The party described the violence and destruction as unacceptable. It also cited reports of hotel guests having their privacy breached and personal belongings stolen by the suspected thugs. Accord stated it would initiate legal steps to ensure those involved are held responsible.

According to Hon. Dairo, an aspirant for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat for Ibadan North Constituency II issued a death threat against him after the vandalism occurred. The state leadership said it remains committed to protecting its members and maintaining order within the party through lawful means.
