Mourners gathered in Ogbomoso on Friday, May 22, 2026, as Adesiyan Adegboye, 49, was buried at his Owolake residence. Adegboye died during the armed invasion of three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The attack occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2023, when gunmen stormed Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele. Scores of students and teachers were taken, and Adegboye was killed at the scene. He was born December 11, 1976.

Nureni Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, called it “a dark and painful moment” for education in the state. He said Adegboye’s dedication to teaching would not be forgotten.

Oladotun Hassan, the Sooko Agoriesin of Ile-Ife, described the killings as “barbaric, wicked and unacceptable.” He stressed that schools must be safe spaces for learning, not targets of violence.

After the incident, Oyo State deployed a tactical team led by the Commissioner of Police to search forests in Oriire for the attackers. Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu also sent additional detectives from Force Headquarters in Abuja to support rescue efforts.

To protect pupils and staff, OYOSUBEB shut all primary schools in Oriire, Surulere, Oyo East, and Olorunsogo LGAs indefinitely.

At the burial, colleagues and Ogbomoso residents dressed in black demanded justice and stronger security for schools. Family members remembered Adegboye as a committed teacher.
