POLICE ARREST OFFICER OVER ONLINE VIDEO.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested an officer following the circulation of a video in which he made threats against civilians who record him while on duty.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Newton Isokpehi.

The Command identified the officer as Assistant Superintendent of Police Newton Isokpehi. The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued Thursday by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ngozi Ezeabata, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu.

In the video, which circulated on social media on Wednesday, ASP Isokpehi stated he would “clear everybody down” if anyone filmed him while carrying out official duties. He later released a second video apologizing for the comments, stating they were made out of frustration.

According to the Command, the officer was identified and arrested after the video came to its attention. Internal disciplinary proceedings have been activated against him in line with the disciplinary standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
