Mrs. Grace Ogunleye, Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, has been rescued by security forces one day after gunmen seized her.

Ekiti Police PRO SP Sunday Abutu announced Thursday that a combined team of police, military, other security agencies, and local operatives secured her release. He said continuous pressure from the joint task force led the abductors to free her.

Ogunleye was taken Wednesday on the Ipere-Iludun Ekiti road while traveling to Ido-Ekiti after official duties at the Ilejemeje LG secretariat. Her car was discovered abandoned along the route and her mobile line was unreachable.

Falade Sunday, Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje LGA, had confirmed the kidnapping Wednesday and said security agencies immediately launched search efforts.

State Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye has directed a full probe into the incident to identify the attackers and bring them to justice.

The abduction follows a recent attack in Eda Oniyo, also in Ilejemeje LGA, where gunmen killed a pastor and kidnapped worshippers, fueling public concern about safety on the Ipere-Iludun corridor.
