A Chief Magistrate Court in Ilorin has directed the arrest of two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and ordered the Kwara State Commandant to appear before it for alleged contempt.

The order targets NSCDC operatives Ajayi Williams Gbolahan and Busari Babatunde, following a criminal complaint filed by the Nigerian Bar Association, Kwara State Branch. The NBA alleges both officers assaulted lawyer Aladodo Abdullateef Nurudeen at an NSCDC facility in Ilorin on April 10, 2026.

In the complaint signed by branch secretary Barrister Dauda Jimoh, the NBA said Nurudeen was at the facility to see a client when he identified himself as counsel. He was allegedly attacked, forced into a room within the premises, and further beaten, sustaining injuries and humiliation. The NBA called it an “unprovoked abuse of authority” that breached the safety and professional rights of lawyers on lawful duty.

At the last sitting, prosecuting counsel Professor D. A. Ariyo-Osu, represented by Barrister J. S. Muhammad, informed the court that the Kwara NSCDC Command had not produced the accused officers despite an earlier directive. He applied for a bench warrant against Gbolahan and Babatunde, and asked that the State Commandant be summoned to explain the failure to comply.

The court granted the applications, ordering the arrest of the two officers and directing the Kwara NSCDC Commandant to appear and address the alleged disobedience to its orders.

The case arose from the NBA’s direct criminal complaint over the reported attack on its member. Proceedings will continue as the court moves to enforce its directives.
