Troops and Civilian JTF operatives have arrested a man in Borno after discovering a large cache of spent ammunition shells linked to an explosion in Kaleri, Jere LGA.

The raid happened around 9:13 p.m. on May 6, 2026, after a distress call about the blast. The operation was coordinated by Ibrahim Mohammed, Special Adviser to the Borno State Government and former OC Crack.

At the scene, officers found the suspect with 1,341 empty 12.7 x 99mm casings and 47 ammo boxes. Investigators say the shells came from his brother, a soldier serving at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri. The soldier is alleged to have stripped warheads from live rounds and passed the empty casings to the suspect for resale.

The suspect is being held by police while authorities probe how the ammunition was diverted and whether others were involved.
