Residents of Agwara Local Government Area in Niger State are facing disruption after armed attackers targeted a police station and a church in Sokombara community.

According to police reports, the assailants overpowered officers stationed at the Agwara police station early Sunday morning before setting the building ablaze using suspected explosives. The group then moved to the United Methodist Church, burning parts of the structure. An elderly woman was killed and five residents were abducted during the incident. Food items and valuables were also looted from the community.
Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack and said tactical teams engaged the attackers. He added that reinforcements have been deployed and a temporary operational base is being established to sustain security presence in the area.
The attack is the third major incident reported in Agwara communities since late 2025. Local leaders have called on federal and state authorities to urgently deploy more security personnel to protect residents and restore calm.
