Troops attached to Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke have recovered 53 cattle during a targeted operation against suspected armed individuals in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to military sources, the operation took place at approximately 9:45 a.m. on May 4 along the Aila–Odugbeho road. Personnel deployed from Akwu moved toward a suspected hideout and encountered armed elements. A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, after which the suspects retreated from the location.

During a subsequent search of the area, the troops discovered 53 cattle believed to have been stolen by the fleeing group. The livestock were handed over to a representative of the Agatu Local Government Chairman for proper identification and further action.

Military authorities stated that operations remain ongoing in the area to restrict the movement of criminal elements and maintain stability within the community.
