The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and extradited a Chinese national wanted in connection with a major financial fraud case estimated at $245 million.

The suspect, identified as Xu Qing, was taken into custody by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja after Chinese authorities issued an international warrant for his arrest over allegations of illegally raising funds from the public through a Ponzi scheme. Police say Xu entered Nigeria on 5th November 2024 to evade prosecution in his home country, following a warrant issued by the Qingdao Public Security Bureau in November 2025.

Following sustained intelligence and surveillance work, officers located and arrested him on 24th April 2026 at a factory in Siun Village, Obafemi Owode LGA, Ogun State. He was repatriated to China on 28th April 2026 under bilateral law enforcement cooperation to face trial.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to work with international partners in combating cross-border crime. He also advised Nigerian businesses to verify the backgrounds of foreign nationals before engaging them, stressing that the country will not serve as a hideout for fugitives.
