The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against cult-related violence with the arrest of a 22-year-old suspected cultist and the recovery of several firearms in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Favour Izunna and known by the alias “Njoku”, was taken into custody by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Unit in Enugwu Ukwu. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest followed a confession made by another notorious suspect who was detained on 30th April 2026. That confession led officers to launch a targeted operation at a criminal hideout in Obosi.
During the raid, police recovered one pump-action shotgun, five live cartridges, a locally-made Beretta pistol, and seven rounds of 7.5mm ammunition. Investigators said Izunna is a member of the Vikings Confraternity and operates as an alleged executioner responsible for multiple violent attacks in Obosi and surrounding communities.
In his statement, Izunna reportedly admitted to being involved in the gruesome murder of about five persons in the area. The command said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace to communities affected by cult activities.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, while police say they are working to apprehend other members of the group still at large.
