POLICE AUTHORITY ORDERS STOCKTAKE OF FIREARMS NATIONWIDE.

The Inspector General of Police has mandated a full review of arms and ammunition held by all state police commands following public outrage over a recent shooting incident in Delta State.

The directive comes after a viral video showed officers discharging a firearm at a restrained suspect, an action the police chief has condemned as unlawful and contrary to professional conduct. Four officers linked to the incident have already been dismissed, with their case file transferred to the Attorney General’s office for further legal action.

In a meeting with senior officers in Abuja, the IGP stressed that the stocktaking exercise must be thorough, properly documented, and submitted to Force Headquarters within the specified deadline. He described the measure as essential to improving accountability, identifying gaps in weapon management, and ensuring that police assets are used appropriately.
