The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun.

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and 24 other lawmakers have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. This move leaves only one opposition lawmaker, Femi Popoola of the All Progressives Congress, in the House. The defection was announced after a parliamentary meeting, with the lawmakers citing a desire to align with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s vision for the state and support his re-election bid.

The lawmakers had previously resigned from the PDP, stating they reached their decision after deep reflection and consultations with supporters and stakeholders. Governor Adeleke, who defected from the PDP to the Accord Party in December 2025, has been cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest the August 15 governorship poll.
