The Keregbetu family of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria has petitioned President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the suspended selection process of the new Awujale of Ijebuland. The family, led by Adegboyega Olowu, is urging the President to prevail on Governor Dapo Abiodun to lift the suspension and allow kingmakers to complete the process. The selection process was halted due to petitions from security agencies and stakeholders, with concerns over procedural errors and potential instability.

One candidate, reportedly Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye, has begun parading himself as Awujale-elect, despite not completing the traditional selection process. The family warns that failing to install a new Awujale before the Ileya festival could jeopardize the Ojude Oba Festival, a major cultural event.
