The Cross River State Police Command says its operatives were attacked while trying to arrest suspects linked to an assault case. The incident happened on February 9, 2026, at Utuhu Junction in Obanliku Local Government Area.

The police said they were acting on a complaint by Elizabeth Akinya, who accused Peter Odey (aka Ola), Michael Ashaba, and others of assault. The suspects allegedly resisted arrest, mobilized youths, and attacked the police team, seizing two rifles and a patrol vehicle.

Three officers were injured; Peter Odey was shot and is receiving treatment. Military and government authorities helped restore calm, and the stolen items were recovered. An internal investigation is underway.
