At the Bayelsa State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded early Wednesday, prompting a swift response from security agencies. The explosion occurred around 6:00 am, but no casualties or property damage were reported.

The Cross River State Police Command says its operatives were attacked while trying to arrest suspects linked to an assault case.

Police Commissioner CP Iyamah confirmed the incident, stating that the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit contained the situation, and one unexploded IED was rendered safe. A 60-year-old man, Pentecost Elijah, was arrested at the scene and is undergoing interrogation.

The Bayelsa State Government temporarily closed work for four hours as a precaution, affecting over 6,000 employees. Security operatives cordoned off the area, and authorities say the situation is under control.
